With the exception of two part-time office staff, the Sandia Heights Homeowner's Association runs entirely on volunteer labor. Volunteers are the fuel that keeps the organization running; virtually every committee and the Board itself are perpetually in need of volunteers. If you are a dues-paying SHHA member with some time and a a skill to contribute, the SHHA can almost always find a place for you. Here is how to contribute your time and become part of the greater community.
Volunteer for a Committee
Note: Certain committees, like Finance, Nominating, Executive, and Governance, are committees of the Board and have statutory composition requirements. The rest are able to accept any SHHA member.
- Find a committee that matches your skills and interests: browse the committee pages on this website, and read the charters to find out what each committee does. You can also go to the Board Minutes and see reports from the different committees to learn what each committee is currently working on.
- Check to see if you can make the committee's monthly meetings. Committee meeting times and dates can usually be found on the SHHA Official Meetings Calendar. If you cannot, but still want to contribute, let the committee chair know; often they can make accommodations for remote participation and/or use your talents in other ways.
- Reach out to one or more committee chairs via the email link on the relevant committee page. Ask questions!
- The committee chair will get back to you to arrange a call, an in-person meeting, or an invitation to observe the next committee meeting.
Volunteer for the Board
Note: All Board members must serve on at least one committee. All committee chairs must be a Board member.
- Check to make sure you can make most or all of the upcoming Board meetings. Currently they are held at 6 pm on the second Wednesday of the month.
- Read through the job description of a Board Member
- Browse through past Board Minutes to get an idea of the types of business currently before the Board.
- Review Board of Directors Meeting Procedure.
- Contact office@sandiahomeowners.org with a Statement of Interest to let the Board know you'd like to serve.
- Someone from the Board Nominating Committee will reach out to you to meet with the Nominating Committee.
